Occasionally we get called by students who are taking an online test and they want the tutor to help them take the test in real time. In other words, they want to ensure a passing grade by paying a tutor to take the test for them. If you are faced with this situation, please say, politely but very firmly, NO!
Georgia DOE’s policy for the Georgia Virtual School is as follows: “When a student signs up, the student signs off on a student contract and ethics agreement about completing work on their own and taking tests without unauthorized assistance. Student’s understand that they may not be tutored through a test. If they need help, such as someone reading the test, they need to notify their local facilitator at their school.”
In-Home Tutors policy is similar. We are not in the business of helping students cheat. If you are tutoring a student on the day of the test, it is ok to tutor them up to the point they start the test. Then you should leave the site and allow the student to take the test alone. No looking over the shoulder or offering hints or warnings when the student does something wrong. Just leave! Then call or email us to let us know what happened.
