Enhancing Your Session Summaries

Many of our providers (Foundation for Foster Children in Orlando, ISDD in Atlanta) need monthly reports for each student so that they can show their funding sources that their money is going toward quality tutoring. So, in turn, we need you, our tutors, to be thoughtful about your lesson summaries and provide more detail about what you accomplished with the child. Here are some examples of acceptable vs unacceptable reports, provided by FFC.

We read short stories and talked about them. Student did okay. Will do more next time.Student worked on identifying the main idea in short fiction passages. We used a “highlight and summarize” strategy to locate key details. Student participated actively, though needed reminders to slow down when reading. By the end, they could accurately identify the main idea in 4/5 passages. Next session will focus on nonfiction passages to apply the same skill.
Worked on fractions. Student got better. Reviewed fractions with unlike denominators. Introduced the least common denominator method and practiced with 10 problems. Student initially struggled but improved after guided examples. Ended with independent practice – 8/10 correct. Next time, we’ll apply this skill to mixed numbers.
Practiced reading words. Played a game. Student was fine. Today’s session focused on long vowel sounds in reading. We practiced reading CVCe words, then sorted them by vowel sound. Student showed strong decoding skills but needed help blending. Ended with a reading game for reinforcement. Next session: blend and read CVCe words in sentences.
Gave pre-test on multiplication. Practiced facts. Will keep working on it.    Administered pre-assessment on multiplication facts. Student scored 60%, showing gaps in 6s, 7s, and 8s. Provided targeted flashcard review and skip-counting strategies. Student was engaged and improved recall during session. Next session will continue fact fluency work with timed drills.
