ISDD Service Plan Description

Measuring the Impact of Tutoring

ISDD is funded by various grants and needs to report back on the benefits their clients are receiving. Starting in November 2023, In-Home Tutors asks tutors to create Service Plans for each child, to allow us to track their progress over the course of the authorized tutoring period.

Description of Service Plan

The service plan will be created by the tutor after the first lesson. The tutor does not need to complete a formal assessment but should use the lesson to get a good idea of the student’s abilities and weaknesses in the subject(s) they will work on.

  • The plan should consist of 3-5 goals for the tutoring period.
  • The goals should be simple and measurable.
  • The goals should be age-appropriate and achievable but challenge the student to raise their skills level.
  • The tutor will enter the goals via an online form and will then provide a report at the end of tutoring which assesses whether the goals were met.

Examples of Goals

For Elementary School Child (Math)

  1. Mastering basic addition and subtraction facts: The student should be able to recall basic addition and subtraction facts up to 20 with automaticity.
  2. Improving number sense: The student should be able to understand the relationship between numbers and their values. This includes comparing and ordering numbers with 90% accuracy
  3. Improving math fluency: The student should be able to solve math problems quickly and accurately. This includes being able to multiply 2-digit numbers with 90% accuracy.

For Elementary School Child (Reading)

  1. Improving reading fluency: The student should show measurable improvement in reading a grade-level text with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression. Tutor will grade student before and after the tutoring period using a specific text sample.
  2. Improving comprehension: Tutor will provide student with a grade-level text and test for reading comprehension before and after the tutoring period. This includes identifying the main idea, making inferences, predicting outcomes, and summarizing information.
  3. Improving writing skills: The student should be able to write simple sentences with correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. We will have a pre- and post tutoring worksheet and look for improvement to 80% accuracy.

It should be clear from these examples that we are looking for evidence of improvement and encourage you to set achievable goals. We can provide worksheets as needed.
